The arts that make MMA :Judo

From Jujutsu: Kano, who was small and often bullied as a kid, explored different schools of jujutsu, the samurai's unarmed combat art. He picked the best techniques from styles like Tenjin Shin'yo-ryu and Kito-ryu, but removed the more dangerous moves (like striking and certain joint locks) to create a safer practice for everyone.

The Kodokan: In February 1882, Kano opened his first dojo at the Eishoji Temple in Tokyo, calling it the Kodokan, which means "place for expounding the way."

A "Gentle Way": The term "judo" translates to "the gentle way." This name captures the idea of using an opponent's energy and force against them, rather than just relying on brute strength.
